In Removing Barriers to Achievement, the Government strategy for Special Educational Needs, there was an undertaking to develop Regional Centres of Expertise (later known as Innovations). The FINE Partnership successfully bid for funding to work with the FINE Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Network, build on regional interest and expertise and produce a DVD to promote and develop the use of AAC to support children with communication difficulties.
